Our
main idea was the desire to recreate the Pushkin cinema as one of the
most important icon of the city. To achieve this goal, in our
opinion, it is necessary not only to refresh that building, but also
introduce a dialogue between the building and its users. Our
inspiration has become a gate to the White City which was located
close to the place Pushkinsky cinema hall is now. The same as four
centuries ago, now the gate also has to lead somewhere. Four
centuries ago it was the White City, now it would be the White
Pushkin Cinema. The gate is covered with perforated sheet. We give to
the city two new squares open for all, which are combined with the
current Pushkin square. One of them which was located under the gate
is called Mixed Place, it is a square where the people from cinema,
Pushkin square and roof top Cinema square could mix. Large fragmented
staircase leading to the square under the gate, during the Moscow
international film festival offer an opportunity to free create a
space in front of the cinema, also constitute an ideal place to sit
for Muscovites and tourists. We feel the greatest attraction will be
square placed on the roof of building (finished with Corian slabs),
which will be resting and chilling out place from the crowded city,
moreover, in warm seasons it will offer an open air cinema. To the
top we can get via elevators and stairs hidden in the structure of
the gate. Longitudinal section of the building, reminiscent the
cracked ice cubes(effect achieved by using Corian and SentryGlas)
through which breaks light beams. Ice cube is our answer to pretty
chilly climate in Moscow, light beams shows that art could break
every obstruction on its way.
