The Town of Cicero wanted to create a consolidated municipal complex. Once an underutilized park occupied by an abandoned building, the 7.5-acre site is home to a new civic facility. The Town Hall Administration and City Services, main police station, youth recreation and health center, and city parking structure reinvigorate this commercial corridor in Cicero, Illinois.
The Town Hall and police station form the principal civic “front” to the project, and the public facade is predominantly brick masonry to relate to the brick tradition of the region. A large glass lobby serves as a common entrance, allowing access to multiple city services and providing a point of control from one facility to the other. The police station is completely secure via card controlled access to all entries and exits by authorized personnel.
The interior side of the buildings features vibrant colors that relate to the public park at the center of the property. The park ties together the overall site development and provides a focus for the community. The Community Center is equipped with a health clinic, classroom spaces, and a multipurpose gymnasium available for community use.
The project was designed by Dekker/Perich/Sabatini and architect-of-record zpd+a Architects.
