Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) located in Rotterdam, expanded its ex-isting office space in the “Groothandelsgebouw” building by 3,500 square metres to a total of 8,300 square metres of flexible offices. The succes of the previous phase led to this new request for even more creatively de-signed spaces aimed at the successful growing community composed of around a 150 startups, established companies and investors.
The design team of CIC collaborated with Kraaijvanger Architects to create over 100 new offices, meeting rooms and Chill zones. They created a look and feel of a green Urban Jungle with a focus on health, sustainability and innovation. Kraaijvanger architects has approached the design for this sec-ond phase along similar lines.
The design is characterised by the diversity of its many spaces such as the colourful conference rooms, private offices, coworking spaces, a maker and hacker space and even a secret room. There are also many amenities like a nursing room, massage room, game room, kitchens and living rooms. In addition the organic design in combination with the added green makes for an exciting adventure which appeals directly to the CIC target group of young IT entrepreneurs and people in the creative sector.
Sustainable and healthy.
A maximum effort was made to use recycled materials. Additionally plants play a big part into purifying and humidifying the air so as to create a healthier working environment. Kraaijvanger Architects in collaboration with Green Fortune developed the green concept whereby many innovative sustainable applications can be found. They include the plant walls in the hallways and the newly developed plant Chandeliers in the kitchen with their automatic watering system.
Kraaijvanger architects in collaboration with Arttenders involved Studio Spass to give its unique interpretation to the experience of an Urban Jun-gle living room.
