Economic reasons forced the protestant parish of Bruchhof-Sanddorf in Homburg/Saar to concentrate the liturgical room and the community center within one building, the Christuskirche built in 1928.
The main idea was to turn the liturgical room within the octogonal building through 90° . By this way an existing gallery, previously on the backside of the room, became a flanking gallery and was complemented by a second new one on the opposite side. The spaces underneath these gallerie were seperated: in the first the entrance hall and sanitary rooms take place. In the second one the community room with kitchen and a seperate entrance is located.
A house within the house was erected, constructed as a timber frame work with a wood beamed ceiling, covered by white waxed board shuttering.
Though there was a budget of only 300.000 Euro an auratic room was created through a mixture of simple materials, carefully handled, and some particular noble details. Furthermore the colored windows, previously on the sidewalls, became eyecatchers at the end of the new main axes.
