The Christodoulides House is a private house that began as a play of
volumes. It is set at a humble urban setting and privacy from surrounding
houses was of primary importance to the clients. Light and air circulation were
also primary parameters in shaping the house. The downstairs is a play between
the outside garden and the inner patio and the upstairs a promenade with views
overlooking the grassed roof and the garden. To warm the concrete volumes and
provide shade in the summer months and also an intrigue to the house the wooden
doors were designed with a crossed wood structure and slightly alternating
angles that allow the sun to enter the house in a magical manner and create an
organic movement in an otherwise rigid house.
