Children's Urgent Care is a space designed to be comfortable for kids of all ages - not just little ones. It also has to be comfortable for parents.... a place that will be reassuring, clean, comfortable and welcoming, while at the same time, keeping in mind that we are designing a prototype. That is to say, this design concept needs to work not only for this specific tenant space, but also translate in to any future spaces should Children's Urgent Care expand to multiple locations.
What you will find is a playful design concept with bright colors and plenty of round shapes. With the reception desk located in the middle of the space, a built-in play area will be located in the far right corner of the waiting area. The play area has a bright green dropped/floating ceiling with an illuminated circular recess, a built in wall with circular niches for kids to sit in and climb in, and a wrapping low bench for parents and kids to sit on and also store toys below. There is a wood slat and rainbow wall that also doubles as a bookshelf for children's books and magazines. The centralized reception desk is lit overhead by circular light fixtures of varying sizes and heights. The desk is also wrapped in the same wood slats and rainbow pattern as shown in the play area. To the left of the reception desk, there is additional waiting space and a small table and chairs for children to sit and read, color, etc. Along the back wall of the waiting area, we have shown some colorful wall shapes that reflect the same cut-outs in the niche wall of the play area. The clinical area would have some of the same design language as shown in the waiting area with the rainbow/wood slat walls above the workstation desks, bright green dropped ceiling, and circular patterns on the floor.
