Chicago Pavilions is a water-based modular system of floating pods designed to allow many, who would not otherwise have the opportunity, to access Chicago’s greatest resource, Lake Michigan. The pods can be used to host a variety of functions such as private parties, off-site sports viewing, concerts, or charitable and educational events. These moveable floating venues, 75 feet in diameter, are sized to be shipped anywhere in the Great Lakes in linear formations of up to 10 pods per group. They are then floated into place and anchored via cables to solid footings at the water bed. Due to their hexagonal shape, one of the most common forms found in nature, the possible number of pods and configurations is infinite, as seen in the aerial rendering. The pods are architecturally sustainable by utilizing reclaimed rainwater and recycled water from Lake Michigan, solar power, and wind power. Each pod can accommodate up to 500 people.
