The site of Green Life Residence is situated next to a lush green park as well as cultural landmarks in the city of Tainan, Taiwan. The design intends to re-imagine the relationship of nature and human living through the interplay of balconies with views towards the park and the city.
By alternating and shifting the balconies in both horizontal and vertical direction, double height space was then created to accommodate the growth of tress and variation of activities throughout the changing of seasons. The boundary of inside and outside is blurred through the use of balconies in different ways such as dining outdoor with beautiful greenery in adjacency.
In respond to sustainability issues, the building is shaded with elongated balconies on all sides. Moreover, the roof was also planted with abundant of trees with triangulated screen to reduce direct sun penetration and heat island effect.
In conclusion, Green Life Residence is a project that celebrates co-existence of human and nature, and at the same time, designed with sustainability in form and function.
