The site is located on the urban residential district of North Burnaby, situated
between the Burrard Inlet / North Shore Mountains to the North, and Burnaby
Lake to the South.
This South-sloping lot, complimented by well-grown “Sakura” tree-lined street
offers distant vista captures spectacular views of Mt. Baker and coastal
mountain range of Washington states in United States.
It was a designer's natural response to carefully position the primary living
space in best possible placement to capture this dynamic views in South while
incorporating ample natural light to every room.
Also it was an owner's wish to capture the view of North Shore Mountains
that essentially make the top floor living space ”see through” in North-South
direction.
As a result primary living space such as: living/dining/kitchen/office are all
located on top floor complimented with large walk-out covered deck that
captures Cherry blossom in April.
With respect to the owner who lived in Tokyo, Japan for number of years,
designer created a Japanese-influenced function such as modest entrance
covered by large canopy with Hemlock soffit, modestly placed at the East end.
Approach stairway with stone wall on the side continue through entry foyer.
Japanese-style bath where shower & deep soaker tub are combined in one
bathing room enclosed by glass separated from lavatory.
The house is primarily constructed with standard 2x6 exterior and 2x4 interior
walls except the top floor, Hemlock ceiling and roof are supported by Douglas
Fir Glulam beams allowed large opening without intermittent support.
Primary exterior are covered by Western Red Cedar in natural and Dark
staining.
