The project is situated in the Tianfu New Area of Chengdu. The design draws its inspiration from a perception of the Chengdu Plain and the immediate surroundings of the site; by weaving into the conceptual framework such scenes of daily life—evocative of memories of Western Sichuan—as "Kuanzhai Alleys," "courtyards," and "bustling marketplaces," it seeks to shape a spatial typology that offers a sense of unconstrained experience. The design abstracts the campus functions into a collection of discrete "rooms." This deconstruction reserves the potential for adaptation in the face of future user uncertainties—or even for non-educational purposes. On the planar level, the arrangement of "walls" gives rise to "rooms, alleys, and courtyards" of varying scales; the resulting spatial configuration is characterized by orthogonal dispersion, free-flowing movement, and a decentralized nature. In terms of section, an elevated, "living" two-story platform is established to respond to both urban context and user requirements. The volumes situated atop this platform are then stacked according to the remaining functional needs, forming a dynamic, staggered cluster of varying heights that serves to mitigate any sense of visual oppression. This decentralized, flexible, and open-ended space creates more opportunities for informal learning and interaction among students, fostering an environment conducive to their free growth.
