This beautiful 1,800 sq ft Fashion District apartment is home to newlywed couple in Manhattan. The prewar floor-through condo needed a complete architectural renovation that would allow the whole apartment to open up and breathe, while providing enough storage and a more efficient use of the space.
Each design decision aimed to maximize the square footage for areas important for the life of the couple. The third bedroom was eliminated to provide more space for storage and the bathrooms were enlarged to twice the normal size in order to better serve the owner, who holds private hairdresser consultations there.
In the living space the custom-made trundle daybed and the ledges became a fashionable and innovative solution for housing and displaying the couple’s art and other treasures. The original signature became a custom bSTUDIO-designed sliding door with a monochrome zoning map, which shows the exact location of the apartment. The door tracks back to conceal the wall-mounted TV, while revealing the entry to the master bathroom. The corresponding map covers the door to the guest bedroom, this time showing the location of the couple’s second house in Seattle.
