Thick Cuted Floor
The project involves the renovation of a 1000 square meter villa landscape in Shiraz. The renovation aims to accommodate the addition of a swimming pool and a jacuzzi, creating a setting for family and social interactions while fully preserving the existing structure and trees. The primary challenge of the project is to maintain the integrity and coherence of the space while developing the necessary infrastructure, given the positioning of the trees and the building.
The main strategy in addressing these conditions is focusing on the "floor" and transforming it into the central element shaping the project. The floor with its increased thickness and extend throughout the project, provides various features inside, around, above, and below itself. The 40 cm-wide cuts with 2 cm slicing lines enhance the flexibility of the strategy and allow it to adapt to the existing conditions and project requirements.
The thick and cuted floor integrates garden beds, water features, jacuzzi, and pool inside itself, creating internal spaces. Elevating above the ground, it transforms into seats, tables, and barbecues, defining the space above it. At heights over 2 meters, it converts into walls and lighting, defining the surrounding space. Ultimately, it becomes a ceiling, creating space below it.
Certain parts of the project are designed as distinctive movable components, which not only create contrasts within the space but also facilitate the dialogue between the project, time, and users. These components, in the form of fire pits, seating, and planters, enhance the flexibility of the space and allow users to modify the positioning or quantity of these objects based on their needs.
