This is a new type of elderly home that is open to the community as a nexus for exchange. Breaking away from the closed-form of the elderly home, we created a connection to the community in the common areas of this home. Our intent in this project was to reconsider the state of the senior home. While providing a safe, comfortable environment and ample nursing systems, we aimed to create an active symbiosis with the community. We created a place that is open to the locality by pursuing versatility in the planning of the space. We aim to eradicate the closed image of nursing homes, creating a new home where neighbors and residents can mingle. Residents can choose the community involvement that they are comfortable with through the multiple functions of the building. The project is a symbolic glass box, a community nexus that is visible within the local townscape. Creating a stage for the daily activities and gentle interactions of the local residents; giving shape to the exchanges and activities of the town creating a new local townscape, living together.
