PMT Partners Ltd. designed the "Lingnan Green Garden" exhibition hall for CHARLIE'S TEA at the Guangzhou International Catering Franchise Exhibition in 2024. In the noisy exhibition environment, it offers visitors a unique spatial experience where they can sit down and drink tea.
The exhibition hall is a rectangular area of about 100 square meters, designed according to the "four waters into one hall" principle of Lingnan architecture, divided into the entrance foyer, tea negotiation area on both sides, production area and central brand story area. The overall structure is built with prefabricated steel structure, and the green shutters are separated between the spaces. The clear steel structure and the semi-transparent wooden shutters create a unique spatial experience that is both virtual and real.
The traditional "four waters into one hall" is a relatively private and closed architectural structure, but in the design of this exhibition hall, only the centripetal layout of this traditional architectural form was taken out and the closed walls all around were opened and replaced by wooden shutters, forming another very representative architectural space in Lingnan architecture -- the arcade.
The tea areas on both sides can be opened and closed by the shutters, forming a semi-open space experience similar to the "arcade"; when the shutters are pulled down, a relatively private space is created. As a result, the entire exhibition hall has both the allure of transparency and the privacy created by opacity.
In the central area, which is surrounded by functional areas, there is a long table about 8 meters long on which brand stories are presented. The entire table is completely suspended from the roof on both sides by the architectural structure, so that the table forms a complete structural system with the entire building. The rope from which the table is suspended also forms an extension of the roof slope, further emphasizing the centripetal character of the entire space.
