We were tasked with designing the shell reconstruction of a high profile building in the Hillcrest Neighborhood. Having been built in 1910, both the community and the San Diego Historical Resources board was pushing to have the building Historically designated. As such, we were required to maintain the exiting front property, side walls, floor and roof framing which were structural unsound. To mitigate this, steel was used to create the lateral resistance needed and new in-fill wood framing strengthened both the floor and the roof framing. New interior property sideboard walls were built and the only new wall was at the rear property.
