Revived and reformed - Chari home by 20^2
Responding to the home’s original 70s cottage character, Chari home speaks timeless design adding the right warmth to the interior for a memorable weekend stay. Celebrating its contemporary craft, this home gives subtle tonal and material hints carefully considering the existing geometry.
With its heightened sensitivity to contextual tea estates and blooming gardens, the counter answer was to bridge impeccable landscapes with accessible French balconies. The levels of all windows were taken down to integrate the proposed glass doors with balconies.
The interior throughout the house is lightened by toning down the wall cladding leaving it contemporarily crisp. Timelessness peeks through all materials of not just one specific era but marries well-curated art and furniture. Partly eccentric tonal pairings talk vibrantly in bedrooms on the upper floor. Custom bed-heads and nightstands in the bedrooms organically tie well with the wall colour. Walking away from communal areas with warm herringbone timber floors, the kitchen has classic Victorian flooring resonating with our chef’s admiration.
Notable pieces like art from Namrata Kumar and House of Things, hand-tufted carpets from Obeetee, cement personality and charm involuntarily. The styling and curation are expertly punctuated with an assortment of ceramic and glass vases.
Black small format stones line up the fireplace wall replacing the original mantle. The centre table deliberately pulls in natural stone of the fireplace wall grounding contrasts in the living room. Wall sconces and floor lamps layer the lighting as an outtake of taking complete advantage of gabled proportions being expressively bold. Negative zones in the original home were conveniently used to add social interests - a breakfast nook in the kitchen; a coffee niche and a reading area in the upper floor corridor.
The Soft layering of this house pins constant warmth to the interior overall.
