CHANGING FACE
PUSHKINSKY CINEMA
HALL | MOSCOW
The cinema as a white box, the facade as a
hybrid element that enables the real change.
The idea of a neutral element in the square is
indeed more effective in creating an icon than anything else... The chaotic
appearance of the building and the surroundings lead us to this opposite
behavior, almost like a tease to the city and its inhabitants.
The use of the material’s full potential is
here represented, not just in its visual aspect but in the way light will be
transformed. The translucid capacity of the material is enhanced by the size of
each façade component, enabling different light intensities and a composition
created just by this balance of light and material.
The facade is composed by volumes with the same
view in elevation but with different sizes in the interior of the building. This
creates a kind of abstract environment, chaos in opposition to the rigid and
neutral aspect of the exterior.
The material is a translucid product from the
corian group, and this exterior effect is created just with the existing
interior light, with the normal function of the cinema during the night. Inversely,
during the day, the sun light will be also in the interior - once again because
of the translucid qualities of the facade material.
The exterior appearance of the building will be
of a white box, mysterious and full of potential, arousing the passerby’s
curiosity. In the winter, when the
streets of Moscow are covered with snow, the white box will blend in with the
surrounding landscape, while maintaining a special glow.
