The residence blends discreetly into a natural amphitheater of rare beauty where the verticality of the rocks
meets the gentleness of high-altitude meadows. We are in the presence of the Eastern Dolomites, a UNESCO
World Heritage site, in a landscape dominated by the unmistakable silhouettes of great peaks rising majestically
against the sky. Here, just a few steps from the cosmopolitan dynamism of Cortina, the area preserves intact
that aura of silence typical of the surrounding larch and spruce forests. The air is crisp and carries with it the
breath of rock and resin.
The element that defines the soul of this place is light. At sunset, the dolomite walls overlooking the valley ignite
with golden and purple reflections, transforming the panorama into a solemn yet everyday visual event. It is
within this exceptional setting that the building takes shape, born from an intimate encounter with the land's
topography.
The ground floor does not simply rest on the soil but partially sinks into it, almost seeking direct contact with the
mountain's roots. Here, wood becomes the absolute protagonist, acting as the material base for the upper level,
which boldly projects outward in a cantilever, challenging the slope. Crossing the threshold, this level reveals
itself as a functional and discreet retreat: around a central hallway the bedrooms are distributed, conceived as
oases of quiet. On this floor, the boundary between utility and well-being blurs: alongside the service rooms, an
area dedicated to sensory regeneration unfolds. The indoor pool, like a mirror of water set in the very heart of
the earth, seems to emerge directly from the bare rock of the hillside. The space opens gently toward the
courtyard, becoming a natural telescope: here, swimming transforms into contemplation as the gaze runs along
the valley, welcoming the first light of dawn.
Ascending to the upper floor, the atmosphere changes radically: space opens up and becomes light. This level
is entirely devoted to conviviality, a large open-plan environment where the boundaries between interior and
exterior seem to vanish. The living area visually expands outward through generous glass surfaces, transforming
the majestic shifting of light on the rocky walls into a living design element. In this space, architecture becomes
breath: the fine wood cladding, which continuously wraps all walls and ceiling, immerses guests in a warm,
organic shell, allowing them to perceive the essence and fragrance of the surrounding forests. The archetype of
the alpine cabin is thus revolutionized: the large sloping roof planes not only protect but frame the terraces to
the north and south, creating privileged stages from which to enjoy the wild beauty of the territory, enveloped in
nature's fragrance.
Ultimately, the intervention does not merely construct a volume but inhabits an idea: that of a residence capable
of being, at once, a panoramic outpost and a protective refuge. Through the skillful use of wood and a
contemporary design that embraces the slopes and light of the valley, the project establishes an indissoluble
bond with its territory. Thus, between the glow of twilight on the peaks and the quiet of the forest, the house
ceases to be a simple construction and becomes a habitable, sensory sculpture, able to follow the changing
seasons and to preserve, over time, the authentic soul of the Dolomites.
