Comissioned by CBRE, and designed by Shlemmer + Algaze Associates, The Plaza at 1800 & 1840 Century Park East has recently undertaken an extensive remodel to achieve LEED silver status to the two office towers. Located at Century Park East and Santa Monica Boulevard, The Plaza is close to both Century City and Beverly Hills. The largest single design challenge within the project was to make the sinks “float”, meaning the Lovair Slab would need a 1” space around the perimeter. Several points needed to considered to make this happen, primarily the support system for the sink. The sinks would weigh around 200lb, and would need to be fully supported through the wall behind, requiring site consultations around structural considerations, to realise this concept, without compromising on the design intent provided by CBRE Project Management and the design team at SAA. Working within the Lovair modular system, a solution was created by creating a bespoke adaption to the steel brackets, enabling the slab to sit off the wall. The Lovair slab is crafted from Corian and steel, to ensure no opportunities for rot, or swelling, as there would be with a timber support system. The Lovair ADA approved sink, and was complimented with the Lovair Wall Mounted Sensor faucet and soap dispensers. At Lovair, design is a catalyst for social change.
