In expanding their banking services to Rio Rancho, Century Bank has built a new 13,500 sf two-story energy efficient office building. The new building houses a full-service branch bank, along with leasable office space on both levels. The banking facility includes four drive-up lanes and one drive-up ATM lane. The intention of the building design is to maximize the efficiency of the unique lot shape and location, while providing a model for the integration of energy conservation thorough design. As a landmark feature a clock tower faces west defining the public edge of the building and a second floor garden roof deck to take advantage of the mountain views to the east. Although the building is not designed to meet LEED certification, it incorporates many sustainable features. The design maximizes the available daylight with significant expanses of shaded glass and insulated skylights to allow every space to receive thermally protected day lighting. To maximize efficiency, an 18 kW solar voltaic array covers most of the roof and is paired with a highly efficient all electric HVAC system offsetting the primary energy consumption. Rainwater from the site is collected in a cistern and re-used for irrigation. Additional features include composite metal panel that actively neutralizes air pollutants approximately equivalent to 18 trees, locally quarried stone cladding, and a minimum of VOC producing finishes. With the completion of this LEED Gold equivalent building, Century Bank is showing great leadership in sustainable and meaningful development.
