This is the first of 3 buildings projected for the “CARIÑO” institutional program, driven by social manager of Santiago de Cali and the Ministry of Education. It is located in the district 21, east of the city, adjacent to the Cauca River dam, on a lot that for years had been used by the community as a park, but legally would be destined for the construction of an educational institution. The development of the project would generate a new form of living space whereas their new occupants would be children between 2 and 5 years. Not to completely break with tradition and habits of the place it was decided to design the facility on two levels, leaving space for the community to continue enjoy the park, this time with the institution as a neighbor. In turn the building through an open plan, allows the relationship of the green area with dam, which is the most important element of the place. The project as a first level presents the administrative space, service areas and common areas (playroom and dining room), which are opening to the outside through a slight enclosure, allowing for visual integration with the park, and generating minimal visual impact to adjacent homes. The second level consists of ten classroom that are arranged in couplets with a courtyard between them, allowing kids to interact with the outside and have both control by educators, equally, there is a large central courtyard led to the park creating a direct relationship between the recreational area of the building and the neighborhood playground.
