Located in the central perimeter of the city, the building has a chance to occupy a privileged place in the assembly that defines the silhouette of the historic center.
The strongest visual impact on-site have the administrative buildings Metropolitan Complex, built in the mid twentieth century, after the last project of G.M. Cantacuzino in a classic Palladian style, specific this great architect.
Set in almost the same front with the administrative twin pavilions of Metropolitan Complex, business center takes from these important elements: volume, facade registers and proportions. The volumetric concept is determined by the intersection of two volumes treated differently in terms of color and glazing a three story volume embraced on three sides by a volume two story volume. The two story volume, which currently represents the main theme, contains the response at the existing pavilions and is made of transparent curtain wall modules combined with opaque tiles in ventilated fixed on the same structure. The facade was inspired by the elevation of the existing pavilions and in the early stages of designin where the classic dissolves in contemporary. Following consultations with the Commission for Historical Monuments, the distinction between solid and glazed area has been clearly outlined, and the the transition will be drawn in the viewer's mind.
In a comparative analysis between the existing pavilions and the new building, we can identify continuity of classical façade on the contemporary one: opaque basement, monumental level was repeated on 1st floor that floats over the ground floor , the shadowbox glazed areas used for recreation of tall windows effect. The last level of pavilions is found in the second floor of the new building in vertical rhythm and proportion windows.
The decorative perforated panel from one floor tall windows, applied both in the rail zone and in the shadow boxing area, was proposed by architect as a logo for the business center. The panel it is an interpretation of the original decorative elements identified in the studied area. The building accessories was completed by passive shading systems. These systems are distributed vertically on the south-east or console-mounted in floor three horizontal registers, and provides beyond their strict utility, a more subtle transition between solid and glazing areas.
The realisation of the facade was challenging and in technically terms. The architectural solutions are the answer of flexibility of architectural facade systems that allowed the integration of all defining architectural elements. Ventilated cladding system using ceramic tiles integrated in the facade, has managed to create solid areas which does not contradict the old façades decorated with classical moldings. To successfully overcome the challenge of integrating into historical context, we believe that it is needed very much respect for old buildings, toghether with admiration for the work of ancestors.
