The central part of the National Gallery acts as a buffer zone between the two existing buildings, as well as between the city centre and the Tivoli park. It is formed as a mono-volume, framed by three sets of steel frames interrelated in a cinematic structure, which is a vehicle for providing everchanging views; either from the inside or from the outside. The cinematic structure emphasises effects of ambiguity, provoking a constantly changing experience of the central addition. Inside the building, the cinematic structure provides a kaleidoscopic image of the interior, virtually without defined edge conditions, in a continuos interaction with the gallery employees, visitors or simply flâneurs.
