Renovation of a full-floor townhouse apartment [c.1896] within a recently designated Central Harlem Historic District. The Renaissance Revival townhouse, once home to artist Romare Bearden in the 1920s, contributes to the area’s layered cultural and architectural history. The project focused on reconfiguring and expanding the kitchen and dining zone to improve circulation and daylight, and on creating a new ensuite bath and walk-in closet to establish a distinct primary suite. The new plan builds upon the original bathroom renovation completed in 2008, further strengthening the relationship between public and private areas within the existing footprint.
