The site of the station is right next to the main railroad station south of the city center of Haldensleben. With a very limited budget in mind a straight-forward but expressive landmark was developed that is able to connect all bus stops under a single roof in order to achieve a weather-protected interchange from bus to bus.
The result is a economical structure the quality of which lies in sophisticated detailing and a minimized use of material. The structure receives a dynamic form by fish-belly trusses. Secondary trusses with parallel chords carry the roof of a cost-saving single layer metal deck. The underside of the structure is covered by panels of expanded metal. The resulting transparent volume is used to illuminate the structure at night and to act like a huge and bright lantern creating a pleasant atmosphere for the passengers and a widely visible sign.
