Project contract officially signed by LandmArch. for the landscape study of ΦΑΜΠΡΙΚΑ (fabrica) at Leonidion, Greece
ΦΑΜΠΡΙΚΑ is a pro-industrial building of a great importance for the local area during 19th and 20th century, since it was one of the first powerhouses in Greece.
Supported by the Operational Programme "Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship", also co-funded by NSRF with funding body the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, ΦΑΜΠΡΙΚΑ is now transformed into an exhibition hall, a "Center of the agricultural history and the sea roads in the eastern Peloponnese."
Main design concept
The re-use and transformation of an old powerhouse into an exhibition hall has been an intriguing point from the very beginning.
The fact that both new and old architectural and constructural elements come together in order to serve this new project offered me the basis for investigating and proceeding to the design idea.
This idea borrows native architectural and functional elements, such as the field layers, allowing me to experiment with the topography and focus on the genius loci.
The proposed topography, of 1900m2 in total, is an extension gesture of the existing one, whitch is now organised into new geometrical elements. These new forms support a very important function. With their amphitheartical character they embrace a sitting area in front of the main outdoor stage, where theatrical plays and music concerts take place.
The use of local, natural materials and the introduction of native plants emphasise the sustainable aim of the project, whitch is one of the most crucial elements of LandmArch.
