On the Monte Pana plateau in St. Christina, the Hotel Cendevaves has been expanded by an architectural composition that integrates into the Dolomites’ landscape with restraint and sensitivity. The extension is conceived not as a contrast, but as a continuation – in materiality, scale, and atmosphere.
Wood as the defining design element, generous glazing, and a language of reduced, clear forms shape an architecture of quiet elegance. Connected underground to the existing garage, the new building accommodates 27 light-flooded rooms, including a suite of over 90 square meters. An open breakfast area with floor-to-ceiling windows extends the view into the alpine panorama, creating a close visual dialogue with nature.
The existing structure, too, has been carefully evolved: above the restaurant, an exclusive wellness area with indoor pool and whirlpool was created – a retreat with a view. The expanded à-la-carte restaurant completes the ensemble with a culinary experience on par with the surrounding mountain world.
Architecturally, the project thrives on the subtle balance between openness and intimacy. Seamless transitions between interior and exterior, frameless glazing, and warm timber cladding convey a sense of lightness without loss of depth. In this way, the extension of the Hotel Cendevaves becomes a spatial invitation to experience relaxation, landscape, and architecture as a harmonious whole – understated, contemporary, and deeply attuned to its place.
