The project renders an iconic multifunctional complex for shops, offices, parking, storage and residential space in eight levels above and four levels below ground. The developed building integrates into the local urban setting in a continuation of vernacular concepts expressed through terraced setups, encircled courtyards, natural ventilation and the use of strong ornamental elements in form of differentiated structural and environmental components, taking part in a series of environmental strategies. At the core of the design process lies a generative approach (including an analysis and generic environment) where each levels takes formation in dependence on the previous one thereby creating the building mass located above ground in eight consecutive steps starting from the top, generating downward, as the main environmental source is the solar energy. Employing the original building programme of four different typologies above ground the generated mass is structuralised into increasing levels of privacy starting from the most public space at the ground level and therefrom proceeding to the private spheres at the top. The complete building is generated within modular systems, making high spatial, material and environmental differentiation feasible.
