This accessibly designed home sitting on a large and lushly landscaped lot was designed as a simple "big roof” concept, where all the intricacies of the sprawling floor plan are gathered under one broad, emblematic gable. The rear yard side of the house has a deep “U” shaped plan that envelopes a spacious, sunny terrace, framing a wonderful view to the owner’s expansive garden. A see-through fireplace centred in the living room’s barrel vaulted ceiling is the focal point of principal indoor and outdoor living areas. A key requirement of the owner was that although the home was to incorporate “barrier free” principles, it must not be obviously apparent. Thus the home quietly, almost invisibly integrates accessible design features. Being an accessible home, this is one of many we have done that utilizes an elevator.
