CCTSP headquarters was conceived to attend to two main purposes – to be a professional sports training center (hosting Brazilian and international teams for the 2016 Olympics) and to welcome the associates’ families on the weekends. Thus, the resulting building conciliates the surrounding nature with country house coziness and a high-performance sport’s infrastructure.
The construction lays on top of a peak, surrounded by the Atlantic Rainforest. Within this context, it searches, externally, for the simplicity of a countryside house that naturally blends with the landscape and, internally, for the visual access to the rainforest and sky, mediated by great glassed plans and the shaded balconies.
Internally, one of the emphases of this project was to promote the comfort and interaction of its users, therefore its living room played a central part in the project. In the great hall with double-height ceiling, the fireplace integrates the living room with the restaurant, adding intimacy to the space.
Due to its location, the site suffers from extreme heat on Summer and low temperatures and wind on winter, making the thermal comfort a constant concern throughout the making of this project. The site plan was thought to comply with these different weather demands, alongside with the façade treatment (whether with brise soleil or the balconies) and the external coating in natural stone (a natural heat-isolating element).
In a constant dialog between architecture and decoration, the project privileges the use of natural materials, such as wood, leather, and straw, seen in the furniture by Brazilian designers such as Sergio Rodrigues, Carlos Motta and Jader Almeida. These are paired up with the rusticity of the concrete, corten steel, and natural stone, these being, ultimately, framed in green by the surrounding rainforest.
