A new home for a young family, this design is the second commission for the studio in the Hong Kong neighborhood of Jardine's Lookout. It's a playful, contemporary residence for children and adults with space for play and entertaining. The three-bedroom flat is blend of mid-century influences from the East and West, drawing equal inspiration from the craft and materials of mid-century modernism and the use of more traditional building techniques in Hong Kong. The apartment seeks a synthesis between these two influences.
The flat is organized around a large, open-plan living space. The vaulted ceiling blends seamlessly into integrated bookshelves and a television and media cabinet. This area is partially concealed by the entry corridor, which terminates at a large curved glass display for sculptures. Shoes, coats, and bags are hidden behind discreet panels that wrap around the corner to merge with the kitchen. A bespoke terrazzo floor, designed by AFFECT-T, forms a geometric pattern that is reflected throughout the space. The kitchen also includes stainless worktops and hand-made terracotta tiles.
At the rear of the dining area, there is a decorative screen that, when open, functions as a display case but, when closed, hides access to the rear bedroom corridor.
Each bedroom has a different color and atmosphere. The kids' room is darker, with stained plywood and a fiber optic ceiling that twinkles at night to reveal the constellations above the children’s bedroom. The master bedroom has an ensuite bath with large rain shower, Carrera marble, and hand-made tiles from Italy. The bedroom features a wall of continuous closet space, with built-in frames for art. The guest bedroom is bright, with natural wood and warm colors, while the shared bath has a Japanese-style soaking tub in round ceramic.
Fun and vibrant, this home is a mix of cultures and spaces that is perfect for this growing family.
