Cave House is a 5 bedroom apartment on the 14th floor of premium residential tower in surat. It is a minimal interior which give vibe of meditative interior.
The site is at the apartment cluster in the premium location in the Surat. There are multiple tower and the apartment is on the 14th floor in the cluster of 3 units. Each units is a 5 bedroom luxury size condominium. The only brief we got from the owner was to create a meditative Interior.
Our interpretation to the brief was to create a clutter free minimal interior which creates soothing and calm atmosphere which should help the owner in practicing meditation . Moreover meditation usually relate to the caves which was our inspiration for the entry foyer so as soon as one step in to the home, the vibe of the meditative space reflects upon them.
There was rare possibility of changing in thing is civil due to structural rigidity. However we changed master toilets to make them bigger and accommodate common toilet near dining area.
The apartment is the last end of T shaped cluster of 3 units on 14 th floor. Due the this arrangement the entrance of the flat is almost 50ft walk from the lift lobby which is bridge. Then one enters to the entry foyer and that leads to Living area. The living area is a open plan space which accommodate Living, Dining Kichen and terrace. There are 2 - 2 bedrooms on the each side of the living area and a multipurpose room next to entry foyer which is converted in to TV room cum yoga space.
To make the feel of meditative interior we kept material pallets very restricted. We choose black stone from Rajsthan, White oak wood, Grey lime plaster as our major material pallets. All toilets are made out of natural lime stone. We removed door jams and camouflaged which the wall to remove the visual clutter in the space. We also replaced typical AC grill with customised 75mm grove to remove the extra elements in to the space. We used extensively the textures in wood in the furniture. Also procured slupture from the natural stones.
This whole project revolve around the cave like entry foyer. It is a heart of the project. It is a entry foyer which gives an introduction to what to expect in the house. It full fil the desire of a client to make unique meditative experience which is right at the entrance. Cave mainly associated with meditation. Apart from its aesthetic value it was also challenging to execute the whole structure which required special details and specific softwares and machine to built it.
Executing the Cave was real challenge. The design was visualised but to realise it was tough task and expensive too. D3Lab, a parametric expert helped us to make task esier by using the software and generating the ecosystem for execution. The skilful and wisdom of the carpenter was extremely invaluable to execute this cave with such a precision.
