Phormd were appointed to conduct a feasibility study for the re-planning of a private house in Watford. The house lacked circulation purity and suitable usability of spatial functions and had been modified and altered significantly over the last 4 decades.Phormd started by inserting a central spine through the building to bring in light and ventilation to all floors. Inside the central spine a new lightweight staircase with vertical bookcase/storage wall would climb through the building to provide access to the upper levels.A large 2 story extension was proposed to the rear with a custom designed kitchen opening out to a 4 metre wide hole in the rear wall through which you can spill into the garden. Each floor was re-planned to maximise space and functionality.
