The RLH owner’s beachfront residence on the Riviera Maya,
designed by BxSM with Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos, has
recently completed construction.
Inspired by the tropical modernism of the Villa’s architecture,
the interior materials reflect the guest’s path from jungle
to sea:Through the rocky outer walls, a wood screen portal
leads to the central courtyard, a magic garden with lush
planting and moving water, around which all the rooms are
organized.
Indoor and outdoor seamlessy integrate, The jungle side
rooms with green toned concrete floors and warm grey
marble and the sea side with lighter, airier materials:
textured limestone floors, like white sandy beaches, and
tropical woods. Each room opens up to the outdoors with
light filtering through louver screens, creating a seducing
relationship with the Mayan Riviera environment.
The study of Ancient Mayan architecture, motifs, and
assembly methods was the foundation for BxSM’s crafting of
each space with local materials, custom furniture, textiles,
and art in collaboration with local artisans
