Esteban Cruces, of ALBERTO/ESTEBAN, designed a sleek minimalist kitchen for a modest two bedroom, two bath condominium in the luxurious South of 5th neighborhood of South Miami Beach. The concept stemmed from the idealization of the notion that the kitchen is at the heart of a home. That all family life, or rather, what ties a family together, is the kitchen, and by default of course, the dinner table. With this premise, and tasked with renovating a modest 2,000 sq ft unit, Alberto Esteban propose to do away with the designated dining room table and separate kitchen scenario, and instead fuse table and kitchen to create an island for living, an island around which, the family of 3 not only share meals, but also interact, play, study, and surf online. The typical kitchen island is taken out of the kitchen, and plopped right smack in the center of the home, whereby it's transformed into the hub of family life.
The island measures 16' (4.8 m) in length and is flanked on either side by a comfortable 5' (1.52 m) of space. The kitchen itself runs along the wall of white lacquered Italian kitchen cabinets, opposite the custom millwork wall of richly toned Indian Rosewood, which in itself is also quite utilitarian. It is Alberto Esteban's minimalist design aesthetic that serves to conceal the extent of the functionality hidden behind both walls, which in addition to a fully equipped Miele kitchen, include a washer/dryer combo unit, media cabinet, server closet, a Lutron Homeworks system, and ample storage throughout.
This most recent kitchen makeover from Alberto Esteban features Miele products throughout, including Miele Refrigeration, Single Oven, Microwave, Cooktop, and Wine Storage, all of which were seamlessly integrated, offering trouble free installation, and resulting in quite the happy client.... they loved us.
