Casa-ztudio is a personal project which is located in the city of Mexicali, Baja California.
We believe that every project should have a strong sense of identity without trying to emulate a style or follow trends. We see this project as a place where we can test our ideas of how we want to live and who we want to be.
Casa Ztudio embraces simplicity through its defined volumetry and the distribution of its spaces. The house is developed on a single level, where it was extremely important that both the common area (living room, dining room, kitchen) and bedroom have natural light and ventilation with views of the patio, where everything is visually connected. For the multipurpose room we were looking for the opposite, we see this room as a small place of escape; a dark room where you can take a nap, meditate, exercise, etc.
The studio was thought of as a totally independent space from the house and it is developed on two levels. In this space we wanted to leave part of the structure exposed and thus be able to appreciate the natural materials such as steel beams, steel deck and ductwork.
The ground floor of the studio houses a living room, work area, coffee station, and half bathroom; The upper floor has a large bookcase, a meeting table and work area, and a small terrace. This terrace overlooks the street, and in order not to lose privacy, perforated steel plates were designed that take on character over time with their patina. These large plates can be opened and closed to control the desired light and ventilation.
A neutral color palette was used for the entire project, where the materials share different qualities and textures, creating a sober and serene environment.
