Casa Vista Hermosa is a 550 m² single-family residence located in Itulcachi, Ecuador, conceived through a direct dialogue with its privileged natural surroundings. The project originates from the site’s defining landscape condition: uninterrupted 360-degree views that inform both placement and orientation. Rather than asserting itself, the architecture settles into its context with ease—framing the landscape and allowing the experience of inhabitation to remain in constant exchange with the outdoors. Natural light is treated as a fundamental design tool, embedded from the earliest decisions to accompany daily life and reinforce a sense of openness and calm.

One of the project’s initial challenges was addressing the complexity of the site while maintaining spatial clarity. The response was to organize the program on a single level, prioritizing fluidity, comfort, and a direct relationship with the terrain. This approach allows for a clear and functional spatial reading, while enhancing visual continuity across the home. Social areas are conceived as the core of the project, flexibly connecting interior and exterior throughout the day. A double-height volume within the main living space is introduced as a precise gesture—bringing hierarchy, generosity, and increased daylight, and establishing this area as a central focal point within the house.

The formal language is grounded in a restrained, rustic, and contemporary aesthetic, where materiality plays a defining role. Stone, wood, and metal are carefully selected to convey character, permanence, and a timeless presence, while supporting a respectful integration with the surrounding environment. Large openings act as frames toward the landscape, allowing abundant natural light to enter and softening the boundary between architecture and nature. Inside, the palette balances warmth and neutrality through understated tones and textures that offer comfort and refinement, while remaining adaptable to personalization through furnishings and decor. At its core, Casa Vista Hermosa celebrates landscape, materiality, and spatial experience—shaping a contemporary architecture designed to endure.
