The project proposes an essential compact volume in response to two factors: minimum plot dimensions, and delicate terrain characteristics, which require simplicity in decision-making.
The result is a small box, like a gift, that opens transversally to the garden conditioned by the proximity of the neighbors. A white volume that unfolds through panels of heat-treated wood that incorporate the garden spaces into the interior of the home, expanding the visual limits of the spaces and humanizing the private spaces. In contrast to this transversality of the ground floor, the exterior of the most private spaces is protected from view in the recessed formalization of its openings, with shared fencing that modulates the scale of the building.
The pool, essential for the owners, is thought of as another piece of the home. The rear covered porch is used as a uniting element between the two, a center of private life for the family in direct relationship with the garden.
Internally, we work on visual continuity and the fluidity of light. The day area occupies the house from side to side, connecting the entire garden with the interior. Lacking views that justify the large glazing, overhead light is used, that coming from the north and indirect light from the south thanks to the setback to the south, to create a soft and diffused atmosphere; in contrast to a harsh exterior that requires strong contrasts and solidity.
The spaces are distributed with bioclimatic criteria, scrupulously ensuring that all bedrooms and day areas face south, and reducing the dimensions of the openings with other orientations to a minimum. A combination of underfloor heating and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery is used, in combination with a very high compactness factor, to reduce the home's energy consumption to a minimum.
The small details, the encounters between materials, are taken care of, freeing the spaces from everything accessory. Decisions are made to go unnoticed, invisible.
Externally, a large curve defined by the municipal concessions, which even more suffocate the plot, defines the external image of the house. A partially permeable diagonal closure is chosen, offering communication and privacy. Given the small remaining dimensions and the completely flat topography, it was decided to relegate the vehicles to one side, without providing them with a covered garage, in a parking area softened by the “soft” finishes.
