Casa Solomia was conceived surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, with wide views toward Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.
Designed by Estudio D3B Arquitectura and built by GFM, the home presents a contemporary take on tropical architecture.
Located on an elevated site with dense greenery and steep slopes, the project responds thoughtfully to the land’s natural conditions and makes the most of the panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean.
These elements, together with the home’s west-facing orientation toward the sunset, shape the overall site strategy.
With a simple and efficient program, the design features an “L”-shaped floor plan with clean lines that follow the terrain and create an internal garden.
Its straightforward massing combines comfort and functionality, allowing every space to maintain a direct connection to the landscape so that nature becomes the focal point.
The different areas are positioned separately but connected through structural elements that maintain visual continuity and create a sense of flow.
Two wings on different levels open toward the ocean, with generous openings that promote cross-ventilation and blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors.
Large, independent roof planes reinforce the geometry of the home and emphasize the “L” shape that defines the residence.
Across 400 m² distributed over two levels, the architectural program is designed as the family’s primary home while also providing the flexibility to function as a vacation rental.
Upon entering the main volume, service areas are placed opposite the views, while the social spaces open to the tropical landscape through terraces, the garden, and the pool.
Fluid transitions link the spaces, strengthening the connection between them while allowing each one to maintain its privacy and character—achieving a balance between openness and seclusion.
A double-height garden contains the staircase that connects the two floors, creating a path that showcases the space and reveals the views from different angles.
The use of wood, natural stone, and beige finishes that evoke sand reinforces the home’s integration with its surroundings and gives it a refined, rustic elegance.
Outside, natural teak wood adds a warm contrast to the lighter tones inside.
With open, bright, and welcoming spaces, Casa Solomia offers a living experience that goes beyond function, proposing a contemporary retreat in close harmony with nature.
