Casa RS is a residential project located along Ecuador’s Pacific coast, strategically positioned within a tropical dry forest and designed to capture partial views toward the ocean and Isla de la Plata. The house is organized across two levels and shaped by two main volumes that rotate subtly to align the second-floor views with the coastal horizon.
The first volume houses the entire social program: living room, dining room, kitchen, BBQ area, and generous outdoor spaces that embrace the region’s warm climate. On the upper level, this same volume includes a game room, bar, TV area, and an outdoor terrace connected by a staircase that leads directly to the pool at the back creating a fluid, vertical transition between indoor and outdoor leisure spaces.
The second volume, terraced and more introspective, contains the private areas and bedrooms, ensuring comfort, privacy, and a continuous relationship with the surrounding landscape.
Both volumes are defined by large overhangs that serve a dual purpose: providing natural shade, an essential response to the coastal climate and reinforcing the sense of lightness with slender horizontal planes that create multiple outdoor living areas.
With less than 35% of the site built upon, the project prioritizes the preservation of its natural environment. A continuous band of native vegetation surrounds the house, maintaining the natural density of the tropical dry forest and strengthening the project’s integration with its immediate context.
Casa RS is conceived as an exercise in volumetric precision and environmental respect, where architecture adapts to the landscape rather than imposing upon it, resulting in a serene, contemporary living experience deeply connected to its territory.
