Located at the
urban core of Cancun, we designed a house that takes advantage of the ideal
solar orientations. Divided in to two levels departing from a pure platonic
solid, covered in three of its faces with a costume made patterned concrete
screen. These screens serve the dual purpose of giving privacy to the interior
and to protect it from the sun light, thus lowering the energy use and allowing
for natural ventilation for as much as possible.
At the ground
level a series of subtractions create a covered terrace in the two garden
facades and the access in the remaining front. The covered terrace runs
parallel to the façade in the direction of the swimming pool and in a diagonal
axis at the other front of the garden, directing the views from the interior.
The swimming
pool, formed by a single lane, is covered in mosaics with a pattern of thick
diagonal strips that continue from the surface of the patio, to the interior of
the pool and towards the wall.
