This house boasts unique and amazing architecture from the architect Rubens Cortes. He takes inspiration from the traditional “Andalusian patio house” and incorporates it into contemporary design. The house’s indoor and outdoor spaces blend seamlessly, creating a visual and physical connection. The elegant volumes of the house stand out against the surrounding garden and natural landscapes, making it a one-of-a-kind piece of architecture. We were brought in to add a layer of warmth to the project and help bring it to a domestic scale.
In designing the interior of the three-story house, we incorporated natural wood as the main design element. We designed all the rooms, including a cinema room in the basement, a wine cellar, and a large dressing room. Furthermore, we created all of the bespoke furniture, such as kitchen units, vanity units, benches that transform into desks, dressing room units, bed frames and headboards, and a bespoke suspended ceiling.
The living kitchen area is one of our favourite spaces in the house. We designed a 3-meter-long dark stone kitchen island that features a 5-meter-long cantilever wood log with raw edges, which serves as a dining table. The contrast between the cold and angular features of the island and the soft and warm edges of the dining table is very interesting. Both the island and the dining table serve as the heart of the living-dining space for the family.
