Casa Mariposa draws inspiration from the delicate beauty of a butterfly, featuring a reimagined butterfly roof that honors its original 1950s design. When we first encountered the home, a postmodern addition from the 1980s had obscured its mid-century roots, including the iconic roof. Seizing the opportunity, we removed the addition to reveal the roof and expand it, creating new outdoor living spaces. The roof was further detailed to taper at the ends, offering an uplifting profile with openings that allow sunlight to filter through. This thoughtful approach adds a personal modern touch to the home's design.
The calming color palette of neutral earth tones creates a quiet luxury that comforts the homeowners. A lush garden of vibrant plants, private contemplation areas, and sustainable rainwater-collecting rock gardens complete the exterior. Winding walkways, crafted from repurposed tennis court rubble, invite exploration of the gardens.
The lanai is a versatile outdoor living area, perfect for quiet reading or lively family gatherings. It even hosted a wedding celebration shortly after completion. Adjacent to the lanai, the lap pool provides a space for exercise while casting a warm, inviting glow at night. We are happy to see the mariposa wings of this home reimagined for a wonderful couple, their family, and friends.
