Situated on a lush hillside, Casa Madrona enjoys an uninterrupted wide angle view of Richardson Bay and the San Francisco skyline, while providing a high level of privacy and security to its guests. The project included the renovation of the three-story William G. Barrett House, a nationally registered historic Victorian mansion, into 11 luxury guest rooms, including the 3,200 s.f. “Alexandrite Suite.” By creating seamless outdoor living spaces Safdie Rabines produced a design that takes advantage of the hotel’s views and climate while increasing the total usable space. The design of the interiors of the project employ modern details that complement, yet create a distinct contrast to the historical exterior and preserved period detailing. Steel blues, bright whites, and warm wood tones in the facility’s design allude to the hotel’s nautical environment, creating a ‘boat like’ atmosphere.
