The mountainside hamlet of Chicureo, Santiago, is the
location for this 1,000 m2 property and home. Working within an elongated
east-west site and a 3 meters vertical drop between the top of the property and
the street, the design constituted a single volume stretched along the southern
property line and cut into the base of the slope. Distributing the building in
this manner has numerous advantages. The home maximizes northern light,
concentrates parking and service areas within the base of the house, places
domestic spaces above street level, and leaves a garden reaching beautiful far
views to the valley. Furthermore, the service base improves the privacy and
security of the home without the addition of a fence, leaving an unobstructed
front yard and entryway.
