Casa Hobby, a family retreat immersed in nature in Santa Cruz
Chain Studio Arquitectos has completed Casa Hobby, a 532-square-metre residence in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, conceived as a sanctuary for family life and personal passions, seamlessly integrated into a lush natural setting.
The project stems from the clients’ desire for a home where hobbies and daily living could unfold in complete harmony with nature. At the core of the design lies a solid stone-clad base that provides both structural stability and a symbolic sense of permanence. This level houses essential services —motorcycle parking, machine room, storage, multipurpose area, staff bedroom and bathroom, and laundry— keeping the functional core discreetly hidden.
Above this base, two stacked volumes open strategically to the north, east, and west, framing panoramic views and allowing natural light to flood the interiors.
On the ground floor, the boundaries between indoors and outdoors blur, forming the social heart of the home: garage, kitchen with pantry, living room, dining area, guest bathroom, and a private office. Large openings connect to a barbecue area and a linear swimming pool positioned parallel to the building, which also serves as a reflective water feature mirroring the surrounding vegetation and strengthening the connection to the landscape.
The upper floor is designed as an intimate retreat. The master suite includes two walk-in closets and a spacious bathroom, while the two additional suites each feature their own bathroom and dressing room. A family lounge maintains a close connection to the outdoors through expansive, uninterrupted glazing.
More than just a house, Casa Hobby offers an immersive living experience where architecture, landscape, and lifestyle intertwine to foster creativity, leisure, and wellbeing.
