CASA HERRADURA
A renovation that values privacy, framing moments of stillness in reading spaces amid open continuity.
Casa Herradura is a renovated family home, an intimate space that accompanies the daily life of a young couple (and their dog) who live and work under the same roof.
The reserved nature of the clients and their needs defined the design and the program: the house was a solid but fragmented structure with unused areas and little connection to the outside and was transformed into a functional, comfortable and versatile space, with defined areas for work and cozy areas for rest and daily life.
The tour begins in the heart of the house where a former breakfast nook with high ceilings and plenty of light became the kitchen and center of family life. The spaces are connected without corridors in a sequence of rooms of different sizes where different activities can coexist; looking to fulfill the premise of creating “excuses to read”, small architectural gestures that invite you to pause: a niche at the end of the staircase, a bay window in the master bedroom, a covered terrace that protects from the rain, each one adding to a peaceful journey.
The garden is now connected to the second level through a terrace with pergolas, creating a fluid transition between inside and outside. This connection not only extends the use of the house throughout the day but also allows the dog to move freely.
In terms of work, separate office spaces were assigned to each of the inhabitants in a wing of the house that allows to isolate work dynamics. This responds to the need to separate domestic and professional life. The three bedrooms each with a bathroom are oriented to receive natural light and open to the garden, protected by planters that filter the vegetation and provide privacy. Casa Herradura is a house that is lived through atmospheres that invite introspection, where each place is designed to be lived with calmness.
