On the land where we built this wonderful beach house, just 3 minutes from downtown Uvita, there stood an old Guanacaste tree that captivated the owners so much that we conditioned the initial design to include it as a centerpiece. However, its age and potential threat to the house led us to seek permits for its removal. Preserving the tree's mystique, we repurposed its wood for the main door and some furniture. Now, its stump embellishes the walkway to the entrance, offering a warm welcome to every visitor. The house is a manifestation of our identity and a testament to the highest construction standards in Costa Rica, so there was no contest when choosing its name.
The main challenge was designing a beach house with the open feel that defines it, incorporating all the desired amenities —like three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a social area, and a pool— on a narrow lot measuring just 10m by 35m (or 33ft by 115ft). Diego drew inspiration from the typical layout of marinas, creating a central room surrounded by comfortable passageways, a spacious social area, and the pool itself.
The exquisite color palette evoking the sea and the way the coziness of the house merges with the freedom of the beach whenever the breeze or the singing of birds clears through the semi-open nature of the house, confirm that we turned this challenge into an opportunity that we seized with success.
