CASA GINO
Bolzano, on the second floor of one of the small villas in the Rione Venezia district, built in 1928 by the Venice Institute for Social Housing and characterized by clear references to the architectural tradition of the lagoon city, we renovated an apartment of approximately 95 sqm, adapting it to the needs of its new owner and his dog, Gino.
The entrance features a wall entirely clad in bronzed mirror, expanding the perception of the space while concealing the service volume within it.
On the opposite side, the large living area unfolds. Here, the living and dining spaces are defined by the furniture itself and identified by the ceiling stuccoes. The enveloping fabric boiserie by Dedar and the irregular rhythm of the openings express the airy, open character of a large open-plan space, in which the kitchen also participates. The kitchen is divided, though not separated, by two asymmetrical arches clad in lacquered wood.
This continuity is not only spatial but also aesthetic: the pure steel volume, the glossy diamond-patterned cabinet set into the wall, and the large bookcase effectively become a formal extension of the living room.
The sleeping area is conceived as a suite. Behind the bed, two ribbed-glass and iron doors lead to a spacious walk-in wardrobe and a bathroom. Facing the bed, an Art Nouveau-inspired glass partition opens onto a hammam-like space entirely finished in resin, with a shower, bathtub, and a second washbasin.
The hand-sanded solid herringbone parquet floor, the recovery of the original doors, the restoration of the window frames, and the reproduction of the stuccoes act as a counterpoint to the bolder gestures of the glossy lacquered joinery, the steel kitchen, and the contemporary furniture pieces, creating an overall balance between the purity of geometry and the imperfection of lived-in character.
