The main challenge in the design of the house is its narrow and deep condition, besides the fact of being located on the slab of an existing building. The aim is to dialogue with those situations and to enhance a relationship with the outside that is filtered or controlled by the inhabitants.
Located in the municipality of Bello, Colombia, in a working class neighborhood that has been recently densified, the house seems to be synchronized with the light and atmosphere of the zone; the vital rhythm of the place is harmonized with the daylight hours. The space is shaped by local construction techniques: a series of courtyards denotes the traditional relationship with vegetation and sunlight of the neighboring houses; variations on the house section aim to particularize the space and niches are located in the thick retaining walls, with the idea of inhabiting the sidewalls.
The house is all built with classical masonry methods, by using subtle materials and technology, the idea is to draw attention to the abstract components of architecture: proportion, light, air. The spatiality is developed based on the idea of depth; the walls are let aside on the edges to create a central and main void that articulates the domestic spaces, symbolizing the continuous flow of everyday life.
